Between 1993-96, I worked full-time as a newspaper photographer for The Aberdeen Daily World, in Aberdeen, Washington. Back then, we shot black and white Tmax 400, souped and printed on deadline . . . Often, I wished to be working for a big daily metro, but now, I appreciate that incredible experience. I’ll always be thankful for the people who welcomed me into their lives and shared their stories.
The best job I ever had was working for The Seattle Supersonics during 2 seasons between 1990-92. I was in my early 20s . . . The organization paid me $700/month to set up a strobe kit in the Seattle Coliseum and shoot all the home games. Dale Ellis taught me to shoot a jump shot. I ate Big Macs with Xavier MCDaniel. Gary Payton called me Ace and Michael Jordan touched me on the top of the head once when he ran past me out of bounds. Best job ever.
